How my hypnotherapy sessions can help you to overcome trauma and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)When a dangerous event happens, our attention can become fully locked and the body's natural fight or flight response switches on. Sometimes the event can have left such an imprint that it can become embedded into the emotional store of the brain and continue to affect the mind and body after the event. The Rewind Technique (as below) is a fantastic technique for treating PTSD and traumatic memories. I am well trained in the rewind technique. Some of the symptoms of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) are:
PTSD is sometimes a caustive factor for depression. The continual flashbacks can leave people feeling depressed. Treating the traumatic memories with the Rewind Technique (as below) can help to alleviate this depression. The Rewind Technique(also known as the Fast Phobia Cure or Visual Kinnesthetic Dissocisation (VKD)Technique)
I am well trained in the rewind technique which is a fantastic technique for deconditioning traumatic memories and one which has startling results. Traumatic memories can almost always be successfully treated with this technique in only one session. The great benefit of this technique is that it is unnecessary to refer to any upsetting memories in too much detail. Ordinarily, sensory memories are passed first to the amygdala then to the hippocampus and from there to the neocortex. The traumatic memory will have been stored as a sensory memory in the amygdala and become trapped there e.g. due to a sudden information overload (the amygdala being that part of the brain which alerts us to danger and which also stimulates the body’s ‘fight or flight’ response). The rewind technique allows the patterns of the traumatic memory which were trapped in the amygdala to be translated into a verbal or narrative memory in the neocortex where the memory is then stored. The memory becomes reclassified as non-threatening and one which no longer continually activates a terror response. In short, the rewind technique shifts the memory from the amygdala (the emotional store) to the neocortex so that it becomes stored as an ‘ordinary’ memory which no longer activates the terror response.
